Daily accounts of the Eins Werden Project's progress from Monday, July 18 to Friday, July 22, 2005
This week we made slow progress on the Eins Werden project. As Stephen Braun is the primary force working on the project, he has been busy with the day-to-day running of the bodyshop. So he is only able to fully concentrate on the project towards the end of the day. So that I am not just idly standing by waiting until he can begin to work, I have been bringing my laptop computer to the shop and preparing images to upload to the website. As I have many pictures to prepare, this has been keeping me quite busy during the day at the shop.
Monday, July 18th, Herr Braun made and welded in the metal panels that would bind the inside B pillars of the Mercedes Benz to the Trabant's on the driver's side. Tuesday, July 19th, he was able to fabricate and weld the transitional piece on the outside that would fuse the outside of the Mercedes to the Trabant. The work looked good and melds the one body form to the other.
Mid-morning of Wednesday, July 20th, a rush job arrived at the shop that required their immediate attention. Stephen Braun regrettably told me that he would not be able to work on my project until probably Friday. So I had the remainder of Wednesday and all Thursday off. I spent Wednesday investigating potential locations that the sculpture could be exhibited as well as thinking about how to approach the video aspect of the project.
On Thursday, July 21st, I visited the Hamburger Bahnhof, a contemporary art museum in Berlin, and was able to uploaded some images to the website later that day.
Friday morning of July 22nd, I called into the bodyshop to see if they were able to finish up the rush job. Herr Braun said they were able to complete the job, but they had to deliver and run a few other errands that afternoon. He suggested I call in around 3 to see their progress and if they would be able to work later in the afternoon/evening. I called a number of times after 3, but no one picked up the phone. So I did not bother to go in as I figured, Herr Braun was indisposed. So I spent the day taking care of some errands and adding some pictures to the website. Hopefully next week will be more productive.
