a3tv did a short interview about the project. You can see the video here on YouTube.

The Border Cruiser is a video installation in a former police car that was inspired after talking with undocumented immigrants in New York City in 2007. Projected from inside onto the rear windows of the vehicle is a Brazilian immigrant who tells his ordeal of how he entered the United States illegally and the difficulties he faces once he is in the country. The video sculpture is the fourth project in an ever expanding body of work and marks the first that maintains the full functionality of the automobile while the videos are playing. The intent of the work is to heighten public awareness of the dangers and hardships that immigrants face who enter the country without papers to find work.

The project was well received at its debut during ArtBasel Miami Beach. Not only was the work presented at Fountain Miami and Bridge Miami satellite art fairs, but could also be seen driving on the streets of Miami Beach and Miami to various evening events and parties during the ArtBasel week.

Since its debut during ArtBasel Miami Beach, the project has been exhibited at Locust Projects in Miami; the Art Car Museum in Houston, Texas for the Twelfth International Fotofest Biennial; the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO; the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN; Creative Loafing 2010 Sensory Overload in Tampa, FL; and the 2011 NYC Amory Arts Week at Scope Art Fair, Brooklyn Art Now, Pool Art Fair, and Front Room Gallery. The project was written up as a feature article in the Miami NewTimes as well as a number of online art journals and blogs.

Special thanks to Simon Hare for the great photos of the Border Cruiser in front of Locust Projects as well as downtown Miami.
