It was at this car dealer of Arabic descent that I learned why it was so difficult to find a decent 190 Mercedes Benz at a reasonable price. Unlike Trabants, there is a strong export market for the cars to Africa. So old Mercedes like this diesel are bought and shipped to Africa. I asked why someone would want their Mercedes stripped down before being exported. The dealer explained that these parts were taken off and stored in the trunk. He said if they did not do this, the parts would be stolen once it arrived at the port in Africa.
