Dollar Spangled Banner
2001
Serigraph collaged with sheet of uncut dollar bills
12 1/4 x16x1 1/8 inches
Edition is over half sold

Originally when I conceived the idea of combining currency with the U.S. flag, I wanted to use real money but I could not figure out a way to do so that would not deface the currency. This is why I am so pleased with the Dollar Spangled Banner. It encompasses all of the elements I want without altering them. I am able to use the actual size of the flag and real dollars in their uncut form without defacing the currency. The printer of the edition is Alexander Heinrici, who is one of the best fine art printers in the United States. Heinrici's career spans decades, and he has made prints for such artists as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, and Julian Schnabel just to name a few. The Dollar Spangled Banner is a limited edition of 250 pieces and 25 artist‚s proofs. The serigraph of the flag printed on plexi-glass was published in May 2001. All pieces come framed and measure 1 1/8 by 12 1/4 by 16 inches.
